THE TEAM
Matt is the owner/operator of Ocean Guard Water Safety Services (OGWSS). Growing up as a surfer on the Sunshine Coast, he has developed an intimate knowledge of the ocean. In his early years, Matt spent a large amount of his day in and around the ocean. Matt had a go at competitive surfing and swimming but quickly realised free surfing more easily suited his life style. Matt has surfed around the globe including many of the worlds best surfing spots in Fiji, Hawaii and Indonesia. As an avid surfer, he has pursued surf guiding jobs in Costa Rica and Fiji.
Matt has been Ocean guarding for over 18 years on Queensland's busiest beaches. Matts dad, was the beach inspector for Caloundra, back in the old days. As such, Matt grew up immersed in a lifetime of ocean knowledge and skills. Following in his fathers footsteps, Matt has forged a long and established career as a professional lifeguard, involving himself in all areas of ocean and beach management. In addition, he has passed this wealth of knowledge onto others through training and course organisation and administration within the professional lifeguarding arena.

Matt is passionate about the water and all aspects of water safety in all variations of aquatic environments.Matt has experienced countless rescues, first aids, and major incidents as an Ocean Guard. Matt has a selected professional qualified water safety team that he will bring to your event and his lifetime of skills knowledge and experience will bring great value to the safety of your event. Matt"s qualifications include;
- Certificate III in public safety (Aquatic search and rescue)
- First aid
- Advanced Resuscitation
- Advanced First Aid
- Gold Medallion (Advanced Lifeguarding)
- Defibrillator
- Spinal injury emergency management first response
- Provide pain management
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
- HSR Health and safety representative
- Rescue water craft operator
- Level 1 surf coach (surfing)
- Working with children blue card
